Merchant Adventurers' Hall
In 1483, just after he became King, Richard III toured England. When he reached York, the first people to welcome him were the guilds. Each guild would have held a banner to show their trade.
Over 400 years later, in 1909, banners were made to recreate those used in 1483. This was for the York Pageant, described as a “dramatic representation of the City’s history in seven episodes from B.C. 800 to A.D. 1644”.
